Doctor of Historical Sciences Oleksandr Naboka spoke at the event dedicated to the Day of Unity of Ukraine.
On January 22, Ukrainians traditionally celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Act of the reunification of Ukrainian and Western Ukrainian lands into a single state. One hundred and two years ago, the political leaders of Ukrainian People’s Republic and West Ukrainian People’s Republic solemnly proclaimed the creation of a conciliar Ukraine. This event became an important milestone in the historical process of the nation state.
Marking this event, the Department of the Ukrainian History of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University together with the Starobilsk Central Regional Library held a popular scientific online meeting “Unity of Ukraine: Personalities and Time”.
The main speaker at the event was Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of History of Ukraine Oleksandr Naboka, who told about the main historical and international consequences of the conclusion of the Act of Unification in 1919. “It is traditionally believed that the Unification was predominantly an important symbolic gesture, however, as events show, it also had major international consequences. The international community of that time saw for the first time the presence on the political map of the Ukrainian people, who loudly declared their desire to create an independent and conciliar state,” the speaker noted.
The Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences will continue to hold joint and diverse events with the leading cultural institutions of Starobilsk, considering such cooperation a strategically important mechanism for popularizing national history.
