The Institute of Commerce, Serving Technologies and Tourism continues the cycle of publications dedicated to the anniversary of the university, related to the life of the institute and its departments.

This time we will talk about an outstanding graduate and teacher of the Design Department – Kyrylo Tkachov. Kyrylo is a well-known graphic designer, calligrapher, type designer, teacher, illustrator, art director in Ukraine and abroad. He is a winner and finalist of dozens of all-Ukrainian and international competitions and exhibitions.

Kyrylo Tkachov’s professional development and the first steps towards success are directly related to the Design Department. After completing his studies and receiving the educational master’s degree in 2006, Kyrylo began teaching and worked at his own department until 2015.

During his tenure as a teacher, he developed courses of lectures on type, lettering, illustration, unique in their content. He constantly conducted master classes and font intensives for students.

After the seizure of Luhansk by terrorist groups in 2014, he moved to the city of Lutsk, where he began to actively implement creative projects to support gifted youth, popularize modern Ukrainian type design. Influenced by the events of 2014, he developed the Lugatype font dedicated to the Luhansk region and made it freely available to popularize the slogan “Donbas is Ukraine”.

 In 2015, he together with his wife Maryna Tkachova (also a graduate of the Design Department) opened the space for work, creativity and recreation known throughout Ukraine – Innerspace. Innerspace hosts exhibitions of works by novice designers and eminent masters, festivals, screenings, presentations. Subsequently, a calligraphy school was opened on the basis of the space. Since 2016, Innerspace has been hosting the All-Ukrainian Festival “Space of Letters”, organized and founded by Kyrylo Tkachov.

Today Kyrylo Tkachov is the founder and art director of his own design studio and foundry – AlfaBravo, as well as a leading teacher at the best design and development schools – Projector, KAMA, School of visual communication, Art and Me.

During his career, he has authored and co-authored fonts for well-known trade and travel brands, art objects and government institutions of Ukraine, such as Comfy, Ukraine Now, ZAXIDFEST, Bukovel, Bouvier, Inkerman, Molokiya, Book Forum, “It’s all about U”, “Ukrzaliznytsia”, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, etc.

The team of the Department of Design monitors the creative success of its graduate and constantly keeps in touch with him. The immediate plans of the department are to conduct a series of master classes and lectures for students with the participation of Kyrylo Tkachov, as well as to organize joint creative projects.

Kyrylo Tkachov recalls the years of study and teaching at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University with warmth in his heart and expresses gratitude to his teachers for the knowledge gained and support at the beginning of his career. Students of the Design Department of the Educational and Research Institute of Commerce, Serving Technologies and Tourism wants to become real professionals in their chosen specialty, adopt a unique experience from their teachers, constantly strive for self-improvement and maximum realization of their potential.
