“In the beginning was the word …”

Saint Nicholas brought a gift to the Foreign Languages Department - the collection of translations “In the beginning was the word …” dedicated to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of our glorious university, the publication of which was organized by the Theory and Practice of Translation Department.

As every teacher always rejoices at the success of his students, so we welcome our native Alma Mater, proud of the creativity of our students, graduates and colleagues.

The collection of translations “In the beginning was the word …” brings together 64 translations of professional translators and amateurs, philologists, teachers, musicians and current students and graduates who presented their experiments in the field of translation to the audience. All authors are united by love for the word and love for our university, which has become an integral part of life and a step in the professional and creative life of translation authors.

The main goal of the publication is to popularize and develop literary translation skills by attracting beginners to this business – students of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” who are looking for their way in creative professions related to word and writing, and often do not have the opportunity to test themselves, need the support and advice of experienced colleagues.

The collection includes translations of English, French, Chinese works in Ukrainian and Russian: poetry, songs, fiction, scripts, fanfiction. The collection is intended for everyone who is interested in the problems of translation studies and appreciates the literary word, because translation always plays an extremely important role in every culture. It is a fragment of national literature. Because when we have a Ukrainian-speaking Hai Tzi or a Ukrainian-speaking Shakespeare, it becomes a Ukrainian-speaking phenomenon, not of Chinese or English, but of Ukrainian culture.
