Department of Production Technologies and Professional Education: Past and Present

The department of Production Technologies and Professional Education is the oldest one at the Institute of Commerce, Serving Technologies and Tourism in terms of its foundation.
The history of the Department dates back to 1976. Initially, the department was called “Department of General Technical Disciplines and Labor”.
The first Head of the Department from 1976 to 1977 was Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Matveiko. The Department specialized in teaching technical and methodological disciplines related to labor training. In 1977-1991, the Department was headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Vitalii Nesvit. In 1991, after the reorganization, two departments were formed: “Mechanical Engineering and the Basics of Production”, which continued to be headed by Vitalii Nesvit (1991 -1996) and the department “Methods of Labor Training”, which was headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Oleksii Nadtochii (1991-1996).
In 1995-1996, the Department of Machine Science and Production Basics was headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Borys Voznyi.
In 1996, after the merger of the departments “Machine Science and Production Basics” and “Methods of Labor Education”, the Department was named the Department of “Machine Science” Since that time, the Head of the Department was Ph.D., Associate Professor Oleksandr Gladushin.
In 2000, the Head of the Department was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Yurii Kozub, and at the same time the Department was renamed and named: “Department of Engineering and Pedagogical Disciplines.”
In 2013, the Department received its current name – the Department “Production Technologies and Professional Education”, in the same year the Department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Oleksii Chesnokov.
During the existence of the Department, new specialties were opened: “Design” (1999), “Professional Education. Transport “(2000),” Technology of Production and Processing of Agricultural Products” (2000), “Professional Education. Technology of Light Industry Products”(2002), “Professional Education. Food Industry Technology” (2002).
As a result of the growth in the number of teachers and students, the sections of design and food technologies were reorganized into separate departments – the Design Department (2002); the Department of Food Technology (2008).
In 2007, the specialty “Vocational Training” in all training profiles were accredited at IV level.
In 2013, licensing of the training of specialists in the direction 6.051602 “Technology of Light Industry Products” was carried out.
Since 2015, the department has been headed by the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Viktor Burdun.
Now the department employs 13 full-time teachers: 2 professors, doctors of sciences; 8 associate professors, candidates of science; 1 senior teacher and 2 assistants. Concurrently, 5 teachers work at the department.
The staff of the department is constantly improving and raising the level of their scientific and educational and methodological qualifications through internships in leading research institutions in Ukraine and abroad, attending various advanced training courses both internally and remotely.
The scientists of the department are the authors of textbooks, teaching aids, monographs, articles in domestic and foreign publications, in journals with the impact factor. The teachers of the department have received a significant number of invention patents, utility model patents. Scientific and pedagogical workers of the department actively participate in scientific conferences at various levels.
The scientific developments of teachers have been introduced into the activities of institutions of general secondary, vocational, higher education, institutions, enterprises and organizations.
The department fruitfully cooperates with specialized domestic and foreign higher educational institutions.
The department sees its mission in the training of highly qualified, mobile and competitive specialists who are able to effectively use the acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills in professional activities, and quickly respond to changes in the labor market.
Teachers constantly involve students in research work. Applicants for education take an active part in conferences, university days of science, competitions of student research papers, olympiads.
In 2020, the department has successfully held the First All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Science and Education: State, Problems, Prospects” and the All-Ukrainian Scientific Internet Conference of students and young scientists “Modern Production Technologies and Vocational Education: Trends and Innovations.”
Over the years, the department has trained tens of thousands of graduates who have become real professionals in their field.
