VI International Symposium “Literature for Children and Youth: History, Theory, Practice”

University professor has participated in the international symposium.
VI international symposium “Literature for Children and Youth: History, Theory, Practice” was conducted on September 10 – 11 in Lviv. Leading experts in literature for children and youth of Ukraine and Poland (Lviv, Kyiv, Warsaw, Krakow, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod, Berdiansk, Ternopil, Mykolaiv, Starobilsk, Kramatorsk and Drohobych) participated in the symposium. The results of socio-cultural project “All Ukraine Reads to Children” were presented at its first day.
“All Ukraine Reads to Children” is a socio-cultural project of the Research-Center of Children’s and Youth Literature. The project is aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of reading to children from a young age and training of parents and teachers to encourage the early intellectual development of children, their reading and communication skills, dissemination and implementation of the idea of early reading to children.
At Luhanshchyna the project was organized by the Department of Philological Disciplines of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology. With the help of students, this year it will be expanded not only among the universities but among schools and kindergartens of Luhanshchyna as well.
Coordinator of the project “All Ukraine Reads to Children – Luhanshchyna” is Professor of the Department of Philological Disciplines Vitalina Volodymyrivna Kyzylova. Within VI international symposium “Literature for Children and Youth: History, Theory, Practice” she presented the activity of the Department of Philological Disciplines of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of LNU. In particular, she mentioned active efforts of department concerning promotion of children’s books in schools of Luhanshchyna, informational and educative activity with school teachers and tutors of preschool educational establishments, holding regional seminar, All-Ukrainian conference on problems of linguistic and literary training in schools and kindergartens. Department lecturers took active part in preparing “Gold Lists of Children’s Literature” for children and teenagers (V.V Kyzylova and O.N. Tsalapova – Center members), conducting creative readings organized by university research library (M.M. Pochynkova) and literary festivals in honor of the anniversaries of the Ukrainian literature classics (V.F. Pushko).
Future plans include coordination of department lecturers with the creative teams of Ukrainian universities (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod) on development of guidelines for school teachers, lesson summaries on the works recommended by the Research-Center of Children’s and Youth Literature for the main and additional reading of children and teenagers; implementing a project “Multilingual Reading” to promote Ukrainian and world newest literature among the young readers.
