Initiation to Geographers

This year the Department of Geography has been expanded with new students.

Student years is the most interesting and wonderful period in the life of every person who has a diploma on higher education.  Matriculation is an old and good tradition that has different features in every university, college and faculty.

At this day Department of Geography also conducts an initiation to the geographers which is prepared by the final year students and teachers every year. Taking into account special location in our region and university work under difficult war conditions, it is very important keeping the spirit of faculty, its traditions and achievements. Geographers have always been the advance-guard of faculty in different areas of student life.

The initiation was conducted outside – in beautiful pinewood. To be the geographer the first-year students had to go through a certain ritual and to prove their ability to put up a tent, quickly get into a sleeping bag, to make a fire with one match, to navigate with a compass. After the official part there were sandwiches, communication and volleyball. Wonderful mood was created by guitar songs near the fire.

The highlight of the event was the song about Ukraine (performed by the third-year student Iryna Lubenchenko), every word of which came deep into the soul and heart, caused memories of native home.

Carrying on the traditions, students have once again proved that student geographical community is a strong team.
