Outstanding gymnasts of the ER IPES

The section “Famous Athletes of the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports” is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the university.
Next in line is the XXVI Summer Olympic Games 1996 in Atlanta (USA). For the first time in its history, Ukraine took part in the Olympics as the independent state and won 23 medals (9 gold, 2 silver, 12 bronze).
Our students Ihor Korobchynskyi and Hryhorii Misiutin also took part in the national team of Ukraine in sports gymnastics. After the successful performance at the previous Olympics in Barcelona, our athletes won bronze medals in the team championship at the Atlanta Olympics.
Ihor Korobchynskyi – Honored Master of Sports, USSR Cup winner, two-time European champion, two-time world champion, champion of the XXV Olympic Games in the team championship and bronze medalist in exercises on parallel bars, bronze medalist of the XXVI Summer Olympic Games (1996) in the team championship, Honorary Citizen of Luhansk city. For outstanding sports achievements he was awarded the Honorary Badge of the President of Ukraine.
Hryhorii Misiutin – Honored Master of Sports, European champion, absolute world champion in 1991, world champion in exercises on the bar, floor exercise, vault, bronze medalist of the world championship in exercises on the rings. Champion of the 1992 Olympic Games in the team championship, silver medalist in individual all-around, floor exercise, vault and exercises on the bar. Bronze medalist of the 1996 Olympic Games in the team championship, honorary citizen of Luhansk city.
