Training session. Day II

Designing functional spaces on the basis of a human-centered approach was the topic of the second day of the training session.

On October 20, 2020, during the second day of the training session within the framework of the project “Intensification of Influence of Teachers of Luhansk Region on the Processes of Reconciliation and Peace-Building”, plans for the premises of functional spaces were developed based on a person-centered approach in the educational building of the university under the direction of the coach-architect OleksandrKryzhanovskyi (Rubizhne city).

According to the project documentation, the premises of the Conference Hall and 6 educational and cultural centers (psychological recovery and adaptation, career development, development of leadership skills, development of creative skills, Information Center, Inclusive Center) are classified as functional spaces, on the basis of which, after repair and equipment, educational and psychological work with teachers, pupils, students, the population of the Luhansk region, aimed at developing tolerance, conflict-free behavior, psychological recovery and adaptation, information literacy, creative and leadership potential, mobility, personal and professional growth skills, foreign language skills, inclusive competence etc.

The day was very busy. At first, in the conference hall, the training participants (coordinators of the Centers), using special software, developed schemes for the premises of the Centers, plans for arranging furniture for the premises with sketchy 3D visualization in accordance with the programs of the Centers’ activities; identified places for electrical equipment, switches, sockets, Internet networks, air conditioning systems, etc. The result of this work was the graphic diagrams of the premises of the Centers with the arrangement of furniture and equipment, as well as 3D visualization of the Centers.

Each Center has its own specifics in accordance with the purpose, and therefore – different equipment, functional areas, furniture, and the like.

The most difficult to design were the Creative Skills Development Lab and the Inclusive Center.

During the training, special attention was focused on the role of the Centers in the processes of reconciliation and peace-building in the East of Ukraine. The global goal of the network of centers is to create the material, technical, social, pedagogical and psychological conditions for the transition from social exclusion of vulnerable categories of the population of the Luhansk region from the HPE, persons from the occupied territory, military personnel, people with special needs to social and educational inclusion of these categories to an equal life in society, receiving educational services regardless of the presence of special social, medical and educational needs.

When designing the centers, everything was taken into account: architectural accessibility, content of educational programs, needs of various categories of the population to which the project is directed.

In the afternoon, the project participants went directly to the academic building of the university in Rubizhne city. There, together with the Vice-Rector Dmytro Kovalov and the contractors for the overhaul of the building, a discussion and adjustment of the developed schemes of premises in the very centers were held. The results of this work turned out to be effective: all the schemes of the premises were prepared for implementation.

At the end of the second day’s program, the participants discussed the design and equipment of the Centers for a long time during a friendly dinner.
