Festive quest for freshmen of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications

A quest game for freshmen was held at the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications.

On September 15, a quest game called “Wild Field” by Serhii Zhadan was held for the first-year students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications. The quest game was dedicated to the first day at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

A journey with adventures, riddles, puzzles and hints provided for a number of locations where the first-year students had the opportunity to get to know the literary history of Starobilsk city. The theme of the quest for philologists was not chosen by chance. Serhii Zhadan is one of the most prominent representatives of modern Ukrainian literature, a teacher by profession, writer, translator, rock singer of his own songs and volunteer at the call of his heart, who was born and raised in Starobilsk city. Leading in his work is the motive of travel. Based on the novel by Serhii Zhadan “Voroshilovgrad”, the film “Wild Field” was filmed in the city of Starobilsk.

The first observation deck was the Luhansk Regional Museum of Local Lore. The students saw the rooms of the museum, turned to the history of the appearance of the name Starobilsk, to the life of prominent personalities of the city – writers V. Garshin, I. Svetlichny, I. Savich, S. Zhadan. Here the freshmen received the tasks: to immediately go looking for treasures – knowledge, skills and abilities.

On the way from the museum they met “Gypsy”, guessed the puzzle and got to the railway station.

There, senior students met the freshmen, told about the history of the station and introduced them to it. The guides gave the players a map of Starobilsk city and sent them to the “paradise for books” – the Luhansk Regional Library.

There, the students learned why the library is associated with Serhii Zhadan, revised the official trailer for the film “Wild Field” and received a new task: to find a magical place on Aidar that makes everyone fall in love with it. So the next location was the suspension bridge over the Aidar River.

Having coped with the next task, the students went to another location – the cafe “12 chairs”, whose name is also associated with the literary past of Starobilsk, because in the literary work of the same name Starobilsk became the prototype of Stargorod, and the suburb of Chmyrovka is considered the prototype of Chmarovka mentioned in the novel. The activities of satirical writers Ilf and Petrov influenced the cultural and historical appearance of modern Starobilsk (a monument to Ostap Bender near Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, a monument to Kisa Vorobyaninov).

Having received another hint, further down Slobozhanska street the students got to V. Garshin’s house.
The last location was the “treasury of treasures” – Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. Here, senior students introduced freshmen to the history of the university – from the women’s gymnasium, the pedagogical school, the pedagogical college, the Starobilsk State Teachers’ Institute to the modern higher educational institution in eastern Ukraine – Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Here, in the university park, freshmen found symbolic treasures – anniversary bookmarks for books and received faculty badges.

So today, future philologists have discovered the way to university knowledge. We wish the freshmen of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications new discoveries and the adventurous student life, which, we hope, will become an intellectual bestseller for them!
