Archaeological expedition to Olvia
18.8.2020
The student volunteer squad of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University returned from the archaeological expedition.
On August 9, 2020, the “Luhansk archaeological team” returned to Starobilsk, which this year became a volunteer archaeological team in the Historical and Archaeological Reserve “Olvia” (Mykolaiv region). Despite the epidemiological situation in the country, the expedition not only successfully completed the trip, but also included 8 new participants in its ranks, including the first and second-year students of the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences.
In addition, continuing the good tradition, senior history faculty members have again become members of the detachment, who have been taking part in the expedition as volunteers for the second and third years.
An important event of the 2020 expedition was the dedication of five Olvians, who have three complete archaeological periods behind them, to veterans. This became a symbol of the continuation of Olvian culture, despite a significant interruption in travel. Veterans of the new generation solemnly vowed to preserve and enhance the traditions of the Luhansk detachment, endure all the hardships of a field life and be an example for younger generations.
