Olympic Medals – 80

The Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports continues to fill the section “Famous Athletes – Graduates of the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports”.

We continue the section “Famous Athletes – Graduates of the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National Universityˮ.

In the section “Retro Sportˮ XXII Olympic Games – 80. At this Olympics, our graduates won 2 gold and 1 bronze medals. Fedir Lashchonov and Valerii Krivov, as part of the USSR national volleyball team, were awarded Olympic gold medals, and Tetiana Skachko received a bronze medal in athletics competitions (long jump).

Tetiana Skachko – USSR international master of sports in athletics, six-time USSR champion in athletics (long jumps). At the Olympic Games in Moscow, she took the third step of the podium with a result of 7 m. 1cm.

After completing her sports career, she worked as a track and field coach.

Fedir Lashchonov – Olympic champion 1980, World Champion 1978, winner of the World Cup 1977, two-time European champion, striker of the USSR national team, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

He played for the team “Zvezda” (Luhansk-Voroshilovgrad) (1967-1984). Bronze medalist of the USSR championships in 1976 and 1979, winner of the Cup of Cup Winners in 1973.

After the end of his playing career, Fedir worked as a coach. He headed the women’s volleyball team “Iskra” (Luhansk-Voroshilovgrad) (1984-1993), which in 1992 became the champion of Ukraine. In 1993-1994 he worked as a coach of the sports club “Ejzachibashiˮ Istanbul (Turkey), where the women’s national team won the country competitions. 

During 1995-1996 he worked as a coach of the women’s national team “Hapoelˮ, which became the Champion of Israel.

2003-2005 coach of the volleyball club “Severodonchanka” (Severodonetsk, Ukraine).

2005-2009 was the coach of the team “Iskra” (Luhansk, Ukraine), which took part in the Super League of the Ukrainian Volleyball Championship.

Valerii Kryvov – Olympic champion 1980, world champion 1978, European champion 1977, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

He played for the team “Zvezda” (Luhansk-Voroshilovgrad). Silver medalist of the USSR Championship 1972, bronze medalist of the All-Union Championships 1976 and 1979, winner and silver medalist of the Cup of Cup Winners in 1973 and 1974.

Having completed his playing career, Valerii worked as a coach for the Syrian men’s team (1990-1991).

1991-1994 coach of the men’s volleyball team “Dynamo” (Luhansk).

Since 1999, the Open Volleyball Tournament in memory of Valery Krivov is held annually.
