The Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports continues to fill the section “Retro Sportˮ.
We continue the section on outstanding athletes-graduates of the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National Universityˮ.
Next in the section “Retro Sportˮ – Honored Master of Sports in Cycling, champion of the XXI Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 – Anatolii Chukanov. The legendary, unsurpassed leader of the team, who at a distance of 100 km ahead of all rivals and reached the highest degree of the Olympic podium.
Anatolii Oleksiiovych is a unique athlete who was involved in many sports: swimming, football, wrestling, athletics, but he gave preference to cycling, where he achieved high results.
Olympic champion, six-time USSR champion in cycling, World champion 1977, one of the best road racers of the 70s. He was awarded the Order “Badge of Honor”.
After completing his sports career, he worked as a coach. In 1992, Anatolii Oleksiiovych was invited to Mexico to coach the national cycling team. Five years of work as a coach gave their results and the first champions appeared in Mexico.
Returning to his homeland, he worked as an assistant professor of physical education at the East Ukrainian Volodymyr Dahl National University. He promoted a healthy lifestyle, physical education and sports as an integral part of the harmonious development of the individual.
Anatolii Oleksiiovych is a vivid example of the will, courage, perseverance in achieving Olympic heights for current and future generations of athletes.
