The lecturers of Romance and Germanic Philology Department fruitfully work on the development of the Department, while increasing their scientific and methodological potential.
Several times a year, the Department holds advanced training courses for teachers of foreign languages (English, German, French, Spanish) for educational institutions of various types and forms of ownership. Course title: “Training of foreign language teachers: current issues of students’ language education”.
The program, designed for 1 credit (30 hours), provides for mandatory and selective components in the full-time and remote format. The duration of the course is 4 weeks with the obligatory completion of qualification work or the publication of a specialized article in the Bulletin (Philological Sciences). At the end of the course the participants receive the certificate for 30 hours.
The lecturers of Romance and Germanic Philology Department can share their experience. So, the Head of the Department, Olena Byndas, and Professor of the Department, Svitlana Shekhavtsova, completed internships for teachers in Finland in February 2020, where they studied the country’s educational system and also attended a course on teaching English offered by native speakers from the United States.
In addition, Olena Byndas participated in the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Scientific Achievements in Modern Society”, which was held online January 8-10, 2020 in Liverpool, UK. She presented a work “The Problem of Anglicisms’ Usage in Ukrainian: Sociocultural Aspect”. The Head of the Department received a certificate of remote participation in the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Key Problems of Germanic and Romance Philology” (April 14, 2020, Poltava-Starobilsk) with an article on the topic: “Modeling a language game in printed advertising texts in English-language publications”.
Svitlana Shekhavtsova, Professor of the Department, remotely participated in the International Conference “The Role of Science and Education in Sustainable Development”, which was held at the Higher Technical School (Katowice, Poland, March 30-31, 2020). An electronic version of the collective monograph “Education for achieving sustainable development” was published as sections. In the monograph, the Professor presented her own scientific work on the topic: “The system of formation of the subjectivity of future teachers in the process of training: a systematic approach”. The Professor of the Department also presented a report at the IV International Conference “Dynamics of the Development of World Science” on the topic: “The Formation of Critical Thinking of Students by Means of Foreign Language” (February 19-21, 2020, Vancouver, Canada). In addition, the XIV International Scientific and Practical Web Conference (with international participation) “Socio-psychological problems of gender stratification of society” was held on the 100th anniversary of the East Ukrainian National University by the Faculty of Humanities, Psychology and Pedagogy, the Department of Psychology and Sociology (April 2020). The Dean of the faculty participated with a report on the topic: “Formation of critical thinking of students by means of information and psychological security”. Svitlana Shekhavtsova took part in the work of the XV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern science and practice” (May 4-5, 2020, Varna, Bulgaria) with the material on the topic: “Specificity of students gaining linguistic and cultural experience in the process of intercultural communication”.
Marharyta Morozova, the lecturer of Romance and Germanic Philology Department, took part in the III International Scientific Conference “Modernization of the educational system: global trends and national characteristics”, which took place remotely on February 21, 2020 at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Lithuania). In the theses, the lecturer presented a theoretical justification on the topic: “The subject-subject interaction of the teacher and future teachers of a foreign language in the modern competently-oriented educational process”. The lecturer also received a certificate of participation in the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Perspectives of world science and education” (February 26-28, 2020, Osaka, Japan) with a report on the topic: “Professional development of the future teacher of a foreign language as a creative educational subject activities”. The XV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern science and practice”, (May 4-5, 2020, in Varna, Bulgaria), in which the lecturer of the Department took part remotely and provided material on the topic: “Designing dialogic communication with organization of subject-subject interaction”.
Professor of Romance and Germanic Philology Department Olena Kobzar took part in the International Seminar – Continuing Education of the Ukrainian Union of Germanists “Der Translationsunterricht als Demokratieunterricht” “Translation as a lesson in democracy” (April 7-28, 2020).
Liudmyla Shapovalova, Associate Professor of Romance and Germanic Philology Department, took remote participation in the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Key Problems of Germanic and Romanesque Philology” (April 14, 2020, Poltava-Starobilsk) with a work on the topic: “Concept “La ruse” dans l’image phraseologique francaise du monde” (“The concept of “Cunning” in French phraseological picture of the world”).

Romance and Germanic Philology Department
