Quarantine is not an obstacle to study!

The Educational and Research Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences continues its educational activities.

During the forced quarantine in Ukraine, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Institute of  History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences continues training using remote technologies. Students, using the educational portal of the university, read and outline lecture material, complete seminar assignments, and write creative essays.

The educational and research life of the institute remains saturated.

At the end of March 2020, the competitive scientific work of a second-year student majoring in “Secondary Education (History)” Anastasia Sykalo won a prize in the second stage of the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in the specialty “History and Archeology (Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University  – the city of Kropyvnytskyi). The supervisor is Olha Zabudkova, Ph.D. in History, Senior Lecturer, Department of History of Ukraine.

Quite active is the preparation for the organization and holding of the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Luhansk Region: Local Lore Intelligence”. Now there is a collection of abstracts for publications in the same scientific collection.

Collaboration is developing between the structural subdivisions of the institute and the leading Ukrainian universities. In particular, the head of the Department of History of Ukraine Oleksandr Naboka takes an active part in the development of the scientific problem “Historical science, politics and the memory of Ukraine and the Donbas are complementary instruments” of the Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy  (project curator – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Scientific, Innovative and International Activities of the ChNU Serhii Kornovenko). Also, Oleksandr Naboka participated in the webinar, “Innovative Textbooks on the History of Ukraine and World History for the 7th Grade”.

Teachers and students are listeners and participants in a series of all-Ukrainian webinars on pressing issues of teaching the history of Ukraine and world history in secondary and higher education institutions organized by the Ukrainian Educational Publishing Center Orionˮ (Kyiv city) and the Ukrainian Institute for the Study of the Holocaust “Tkuma” (Dnipro city). Among the speakers are well-known methodologists and authors of leading textbooks on the history of Ukraine and world history, in particular, Ihor Schupak and Vitalii Dribnitsa. According to the results of participation, their participants, Oleksandr Naboka and Olha Zabudkova, will receive certificates of completion of continuing education courses. Also, participants in webinars are third-year students majoring in Secondary Education (History), that is part of their teaching practice.

The Department of Philosophy and Sociology, in addition to its traditional activities, presented an innovative project to popularize science and philosophical knowledge. A special page has been created on the site http://www.ostrovok.lg.ua/, on which non-trivial reviews of contemporary social and philosophical works of outstanding Ukrainian and foreign scientists are posted. The second issue of the column has already been released.

The page administrator is Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology Anzhelika Chanturia.

The Department of Political Science and Jurisprudence during the quarantine relied on active scientific activity. During the quarantine period, more than a dozen articles in various professional scientific publications of Ukraine and abroad have already been published.

On March 27, Anton Bader, Director of the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences congratulated the graduates and students on the traditional Intern Day in a video address. Unfortunately, objective circumstances prevented a meeting at a traditional evening.

An important and one of the main components of the institute’s activities is career guidance, which it conducts throughout the year, in particular, distributing career guidance videos on Instagram and Facebook.

Thus, the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences continues active scientific, educational and cultural activities, even despite quarantine. The employees and students of the Institute are sure that the problems caused by the outbreak of COVID-19 are a temporary phenomenon, we will overcome an invisible enemy with joint efforts and security measures. Be healthy!
