Kobzar’s Word Unites the Luhansk Region

The Shevchenko week began at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Taras Shevchenko lives in the soul of our people with every word, ray of thought, with every pain of his own life. 206 years have passed since the birth of the glorious son of the Ukrainian people, but even today the poet speaks to his heirs as if alive.

As part of the Shevchenko week, our Alma Mater joined the patriotic action “Kobzar’s Word Unites the Luhansk Region”. It provided for the establishment of a record for simultaneous joint reading aloud of the Taras Shevchenko’s poetry, which will be registered in the Book of Records of Ukraine.

At noon, the Shevchenko family moved to the monument of Great Kobzar. The teaching staff felt integrity and pride in the fact that they are descendants of the Great Son of Ukraine.

At this time, the entire active part of the local population gathered in the central square of the city, namely: the city leadership, the public, activists, and employees of organizations.

Yevgen Pogorelov, Chairman of the Starobilsk District State Administration mentioned that there are not many geniuses that the whole world is bowing to, and among them is Taras Shevchenko, the giant of the spirit and people’s freedom.

Together all those present enjoyed the Poet’s verses assigned to the music. As a sign of respect and memory of Taras Shevchenko, students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications prepared a literary and musical composition “Live, the Poet, in Human Memory”.

Oleksandr Mironenko, Kateryna Sukharevskova, Tetiana Tsarevska, Nina Soroka, Khrystyna Tananova, Serhii Teriaev, Yulia Dybka and Stanislav Zaichenko sincerely quoted Taras Shevchenko’s poetry. Students unanimously noted that Kobzar was a fiery patriot and dreamed of seeing a free Ukraine. He was deeply convinced that his liberating poetry would bring down the people who had bent down from their knees.

The most emotional act was the joint reading aloud of the immortal lines from the poem “Dream”. All those present at the same time were convinced that our country is beautiful and strong. Starobilsk citizens united together to perpetuate the memory of Great Kobzar.

At the end of the event, all those present laid flowers at the monument and thanked the Word Genius for his immortal strings.

A powerful talent devoted to serving the people, a high professional culture, unlimited faith in his native country – all this put Taras Shevchenko among the prominent poets of the world.

His poems are an eternal flame that will never die out in the hearts of our people:
