Day of Dignity and Freedom

November 21, the University solemnly celebrated the Day of Dignity and Freedom.

The Day of Dignity and Freedom is a significant date that recalls the fateful events in the life of our country at the beginning of the XXI century, pays tribute to the patriotism and courage of citizens who came in the fall of 2004 and in November 2013 – February 2014 to defense democratic values, national interests of Ukraine, its European choice.

Today, the educational process at our university began with watching videos about the Revolution of Dignity. The documentary films reflected the confrontation on Maidan on February 19-20, 2014, the difficult revolutionary everyday life of people who strove for truth and freedom. Looking through the footage of events five years ago, photos of wounded and dead heroes, you understand that the expression, “we will put our soul and body for our freedom” became for people not just words from the hymn, but a call of the soul.

Oleksandr Naboka gave a lecture on the beginning of the Dignity Revolution, its causes, course of events, manipulation of the consciousness of Ukrainians for students of the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences and the Institute of Economy and Business. 

On midday, a theatrical event was held in the university assembly hall. At the beginning of the event, the Chairman of the Academic Council Vitalii Kurylo addressed with a welcoming speech: “Freedom and Dignity are not just words, this is what a person lives. Ukrainians have shown that they are a free, democratic nation, which has its own dignity. The events happened 6 years ago is proof that freedom and human dignity have triumphed. Be free and be worthy.”

During the event, students of our university convincingly played the mise-en-scene “Heavenly Hundred Heroes”, reproducing the events of those days. And this is no accident, because student youth has become the most active part of the protest movement. Songs performed by our vocalists conveyed the pain of the country and at the same time raised a patriotic spirit, lit hearts with hope for a wonderful future.

Those present observed the minute of silence in memory of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, all those who gave their lives for freedom, independence, democratic values, national interests and European choice. Among the people who defended the integrity of our state, its freedom and peace, our fellow countrymen also died, among them: Ivan Kulish, Serhii Fedorov, Yurii Poleno, Roman Verbetsky, Bohdan Zinchenko, Oleksandr Liverin.

As a sign of eternal memory, respect and immense gratitude, university students laid flowers at the graves of fallen heroes-warriors.

On the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the Revolution of Dignity, university students recalled the history of the Orange Revolution, watched documentaries that penetrate the hearts and honor the memory of all those who died for truth and freedom.
