Presentation of the book collection
2.10.2019
Today, the presentation of the book collection took place in the Scientific Library of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
In 2018-2019, the non-governmental organization Association Informatio-Consortium implements the project “Moved Universities: American Books and the Professional Development of Librarians” with financial support from the US Embassy in Ukraine. The aim of the project is to replenish the funds of libraries of displaced universities with books by American authors and to attract the center “Window on America” to organize training on topical issues for library staff.
Thanks to the implementation of the “American Books to Displaced Universities” project, the collection of our scientific library has been replenished with new books sponsored by American writers. “This is a collection of books in the amount of more than 420 publications. 168 books are printed in English, the rest in Ukrainian. Some of them were issued in the United States, others in Ukraine,” – Victoria Choch, coordinator of the Informatio-Consortium Association said.
“On behalf of students and university staff, I sincerely thank the project coordinators and the US Embassy in Ukraine for the books. Thanks to the activities of the Window on America Center at the University, its visitors, participants in various trainings and classes, students gain knowledge about the United States, are aware of assistance and exchange programs, and learn English,” – Vitalii Kurylo, Chairman of the Academic Council of the University said.
The event was attended by teachers and students of our University, who after the official part had the opportunity to choose a book to read.
Today our library has replenished with new editions, and tomorrow in the information and cultural center “Window on America” a series of trainings and seminars will be held on the implementation of the project “Support for Libraries of Moved Universities of the East and Crimea” and the further development of American information and resource centers.
