Луганський національний університет імені Тараса Шевченка

In loving memory

Mykhailo Zhukovych, the founder and long-term director of the College of Technology and Design of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, passed away.

Mykhailo Stepanovych devoted his whole life to the development of vocational, technical and higher education in the Luhansk region. His name is associated with the creation of the Vocational School No. 16, and then the Luhansk College of Technology and Design, which combined two educational institutions in Luhansk city – Vocational School No. 48, opened in 1959, and Vocational School No. 16, created in 1976. Thus, Mykhailo Stepanovych managed to create a unique higher educational institution, which combined the training of specialists of two educational qualification levels – a skilled worker and a junior specialist.

Possessing progressive thinking and restless nature, Mykhailo Stepanovych did not stop there: in 2008, he came up with the initiative to join the college to our University and became a part of it, creating a complete multi-level education system. Now college graduates, having received diplomas of skilled worker and junior specialist, had the opportunity to enter and receive bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

For almost 40 years of his leadership, Mykhailo Zhukovych has created a modern multidisciplinary educational institution that trains specialists in 12 professions and 7 specialties.

Mykhailo Stepanovych often repeated the motto of the College: “A person, who holds an education in the hands, can change the face of the Earth.” Since 2014, he was constantly worried about the fate of the College until the last minute of his life ….

Mykhailo Stepanovych was a noble, sincere, honest man, a high-level professional. So he will forever remain in our hearts …

We express our sincere condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and students.

Everlasting memory …
