Open Lecture at the Faculty of Foreign Languages

An open lecture was held at the Faculty of Foreign Languages.
At the Faculty of Foreign Languages an open lecture on the topic: “Euphemization as a Means of Veiling the Content of Negative Expressions in the English Media in the Context of Hybrid Information War” was held by professor of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department Svitlana Shekhavtsova. The lecture was held as a part of the course “Introduction to Linguistics” for first-year students of specialties “Secondary Education. Language and literature (English), (Spanish, English), (French, English), (German, English)”.
In recent decades, the process of the spread of euphemization has been particularly intense, since euphemisms are powerful way to form new social standards, so the topic of the lecture is extremely relevant. Such important issues as the concept of “information hybrid war” at an interdisciplinary level, information and psychological security as a new area of interdisciplinary research, the euphemization phenomenon in modern linguistic discourse, the classification of negative euphemisms in modern linguistic science were discussed during the lecture.
The lecture was interactive, students eagerly joined the discussion of the main issues. The lecture was also attended by other lecturers. Head of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Olena Byndas noted that the open lecture carried out at a high methodological level. Key lecture information was presented at Power Point Presentation. The lecturer is fluent in both the material and the audience. During the lecture, many examples of English and Ukrainian euphemisms were given, which are able to veil the content of negative phenomena in the context of an information-hybrid war. At the end of the lecture the lecturer offered students an interesting test to determine their self-esteem.
Head of the Theory and Practice of Translation department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Perova Svitlana noted that when considering issues of a new topic, the lecturer established a logical connection with the material of previous classes in the discipline. The topic of the lecture and the main issues that were considered in the context of the lecture were clearly defined. The lecture material is logically structured in content and volume. The lecturer provides comments illustrated in the form of structural logical diagrams, facilitates the perception and assimilation of new material by students. During the lecture, students were offered the fixation of certain terms and concepts that they will need for seminars in the discipline. Shekhavtsova S.O. has a high lecture and methodological culture, knows how to captivate students with the romance of scientific research, therefore, the lecture on the topic “Euphemization as a Means of Veiling the Content of Negative Expressions in the English Media in the Context of Hybrid Information War” deserves the highest rating.
