International Field Day

Representatives of the Faculty of Natural Sciences visited International Field Day.
On August 16, 2019, in the village of Varvarivka of the Luhansk region, the company “Syngenta” together with the CJSC “Agroton” held International Field Day, where was presented a comprehensive technology for growing sunflower and methods for controlling the malicious parasitic weed Sunflower broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.). New hybrids of sunflower, corn and winter rape were also introduced. The event was attended by the heads of agricultural enterprises, leading experts on the problems of growing agricultural crops. The event was also attended by representatives of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University including head of the Department of Biology and Agronomy, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Serhii Masliyov, teachers, postgraduate students and master students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
At the event, experts shared the latest methods with those present to increase plant productivity and obtain a high yield of sunflower and corn.
On the theoretical part of the International Field Day, the following issues were considered:
– Olha Marchenko, portfolio manager of Syngenta oilseeds, spoke about the role of Syngenta in the development of sunflower breeding.
– Tetiana Malyna, laboratory manager of the Kharkiv Diagnostic Center made a presentation ” Sunflower broomrape: myths and realities – the spread of races, biology, factors of influence on the development of the parasite.”
– Hennadii Malyna, marketing manager for the development of the oilseed direction, spoke about the parasitic weed control technology “Soulguard: the path to success”, which includes genetic resistance, herbicidal control, and also when combining these methods, great importance is attached to observing proper agricultural techniques.
After the theoretical part, all those present were invited to get acquainted with the demonstration and experimental plots for planting new sunflower hybrids.
According to the Faculty of Natural Sciences
