Our Athletes are Winning!

Team European Championship was conducted on 20 – 21 June in Cheboksary (Russia).

Relay team of Ukraine with Nataliia Strohova from Luhansk, Nataliia Pohrebniak from Kharkiv, Viktoriia Kashcheieva (Donetsk/Sumy Region) and Khrystyna Stui (Kyiv/Ivano-Frankivsk Region) showed the result of 42.50 sec that is half second better than a result of girls from Russia who finished the second. In addition, the girls bet their own record of team European Championships which they had set two years ago. Also they showed the best season result in Europe.

Master’s student of IPES of LTSNU Nataliia Strohova performed as a part of team. She went to the Championship right after her successful defence of master’s work.   Education didn’t hurt our athlete to show good result at the competitions. At the first stage of relay she started at the uneasy eight line and set a tone for successful team performance. She was the first who passed relay baton. By doing so she laid the foundation for victory. After performance Strohova gave flash-interview: “I’d like to say: we began a real preparation for Olympic Games. This was a kind of intermediate start. I was expecting this success. So, wait for us, we are returning.”

Representative of national team of Ukraine Serhii Smelyk won in 200 m run, having covered a distance in 20.45 sec. Danni Talbot (Great Britain) was the second with a result of 20.62 sec. There is Enriko Demonte (Italy) on the third place. He finished with a result of 20.67 sec.

Serhii, graduate of IPES of LNU, told after race finishing: “Everything is going according to a plan. The only thing get in the way is injuries. Despite this, step by step, we are going to our goal – good performance at the World Championship. I thought I couldn’t struggle with a wind. But, as I see, wind is not a barrier. Nataliia Pohrebniak with her personal record ran before me and I thought: “I am not worse!” And the team needs scores – this is a motivation as well”.

Nataliia Strohova and Serhii Smelyk won two out of three gold awards of Ukrainian team at this Championship, having proved excellent reputation of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

In the team event national team of Ukraine took the honorary seventh place at the Premier League.
