Field practice of biology students
15.7.2019
The first-second year students majoring in “Secondary Education. Biology” passed field practice in botany and zoology in the Chernihiv region.
The first and second-year students majoring in “Secondary Education. Biology” from 6 to 15 June 2019 traveled to the State Dendrological Park “Trostianetskyi” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which is located in the village Trostianets, Ichnianskyi district of Chernihiv region, for the field practice in botany and zoology.
Trostianets Park is located on an area of 207 hectares, of which 10.5 hectares are occupied by water bodies. The park is one of the most vivid examples of landscape formation with the help of plants. The founder of the park was I. M. Skoropadskyi. Construction of the arboretum began in 1834 with the extension of large ponds. Until 1880, the park acquired an entirely shaped look. 623 species and varieties of coniferous and deciduous trees were planted in the park. Now the arboretum is considered the pearl of the Chernihiv region. This unusual combination of vegetation led to a kind of floristic and faunistic composition, which was studied by students.
During the period of field practice, students under the guidance of teachers of the Department of Biology and Agronomy S. P. Lytvynenko and O. O. Kucher learned about the flora and fauna of the arboretum, mastered the herbarization of plants and their botanical description; methods of observing vertebrate animals, forming collections and fixing animals in the form of carcasses and stuffed animals.
In addition, the students visited the national historical and cultural reserve “Kachanivka” – one of the largest centers of national culture of the 2nd half of the 19th century in order to get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
The teachers and students are grateful to Oleksii Ilienko, Director of the State Dendrological Park “Trostianetskyi”, for the opportunity to conduct botanical and zoological research, as well as organizing excursions.
