Anti-corruption excursion

Students of the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Science visited the anti-corruption excursion in Kyiv.

Recently, students of the ER IHIRSPS had the opportunity to learn about the international experience in the fight against corruption and the state of implementation of the anti-corruption strategy in Ukraine.

On May 29 – 30, 2019 in Kyiv, within the framework of the UN Program for the Restoration and Development of the World with the support of the European Union, a complex of educational events was held under the general title “Anti-Corruption Walks Kyiv”. After a long selection, students of the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences became participants of the Program, which was attended by representatives of leading universities in the Luhansk region.

Among the main events, the most interesting visit for guests from Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University turned out to be an introductory visit to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) – the state law enforcement agency with the function of preventing, identifying and investigating corruption offenses. Acquaintance with the Ukrainian anti-corruption system was continued during an excursion to the National Agency of Ukraine on the identification, search and management of assets obtained from corruption and other crimes (ARMA).

A meeting with leading representatives of the anti-corruption international public organization Transparency International Ukraine, as well as a study visit to the ACREC Center of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Anti-Corruption Center were important from the point of view of understanding the features of the anti-corruption policy that is being implemented in Ukraine today.

The cultural and educational component of the event also turned out to be saturated, in particular, excursions to various places in Kyiv and the surrounding area, which are traditionally associated by the society with amazing manifestations of corruption in Ukraine. The highlight of the Program was the visit of its participants to the Mezhigorye National Park, which has the informal name “Museum of Ukrainian Corruption”. Students of the ER IHIRSPS had the opportunity to see the former residence of President Yanukovych in the village of Nova Petrivka, which became a symbol of oligarchic and criminal power, an indicator of the lifestyle of Ukrainian nouveau riche.

The leadership and public asset of the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences will continue to facilitate the involvement of students in such events.
