Memory as a Category of a Nation

On April 18, a scientific conference “Memory as a Category of a Nation: Pantheon of Heroes of the Modern Russian-Ukrainian War” was held at the University.
Participants of the event were students and teachers of the Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences. The conference was held with the support of the public organization Union of Combatants of Combat Operations “ASSOCIATION OF KOMBATS”. The event was started by Viktor Brekhunenko – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of the Institute of Ukrainian Archeography and Source Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with a report on the topic “War of Consciousness”. He spoke about how Russia “lost the war for the consciousness of Ukrainians in 2014”. The report and the students and teachers of the Educational and Research Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences raised many questions to the speaker.
Serhii Zozulia – Senior Researcher of the Department of Historical Monuments, Head of the North-Eastern Regional Office of the Center for Monument Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine UTOPIK recalled the tragic events of 2014 and said: “When we have strong heads, then there will be a strong economy and a strong country”.
The speakers presented the University with two books in memory, one of which described in detail relations between Russia and Ukraine since the 12th century. Students and administration of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University thank guests and organizers for the opportunity to learn more about the history of Ukraine and gain new important knowledge.
