Lifeline for LNU Students

Development of “Electronic University” was described at the university.

Studying, passing exams without leaving the walls of the house, without worrying about the dangers on the way to an educational establishment, is a real opportunity provided by Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. The university is actively working in virtual space.

“We created our own framework – “Electronic University”. The system operates in the Ukrainian segment of cyberspace. This means that users in addition to the universal international languages have the possibility to use Ukrainian characters when entering domain names. With this technology students from remote areas not only of Ukraine but the whole world will be able to prepare for lectures, pass exams, get all sorts of information” – explained Oleksandr Meniailenko, Prorector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of Luhansk National University.

Developed “electronic university” is a lifeline for graduate students today, they say at LNU. Many of them aren’t able to get to the examination points for a number of reasons. Most of the students are afraid for their own lives. Nevertheless, the university solved this problem. “Ensuring the safety of the students is a primary goal of the university today. We are functioning in conditions of war and we should try all available and effective methods that allow the university to provide productive training and to prepare qualified professionals. Modern technologies certainly help us in this. The new innovative system proves that”- says Leonid Vakhovskyi, Director of the Institute of History, International Relations and Social and Political Sciences of LNU.

Students, who have passed exams at “Electronic University”, share their impressions. Graduates talk about convenient and easy use of the information system. And they joke that passing exams at home isn’t so concerning. The fifth-year student of the Institute of Economics and Business Anna Volkova said: “I could not get to Kreminna from Luhansk and was very worried about the state examinations. And I’m not the only one who did. At the university we were calmed. They said, such students had an opportunity to pass tests online. It is like a load off our mind. We passed the exams quickly and easily but with some worrying”.

Teachers also emphasize the advantage of “Electronic University”: exams in such conditions are the same thing as when students come to the classroom. According to the Director of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology Olena Karaman, the university took into account all requirements for this form of state exams and achieved the goal – students and teachers quickly adapted to work in a virtual environment.
