Луганський національний університет імені Тараса Шевченка

At the crossroads of the muse and the fate

A solemn event dedicated to the 205th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birthday was held at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Every year, the University holds a series of events dedicated to the memory of the great genius of the Ukrainian people. The gala concert, which took place today on the occasion of the 205th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth, was the final chord of the Shevchenko week.

The attendees had the opportunity to learn interesting little-known facts from the life of the Great Kobzar, to hear deep poetry, including modern music.

Taras Shevchenko is a multifaceted genius and one of the most prominent figures in Ukrainian arts of the mid-19th century. In the four thematic parts Taras Shevchenko appeared as a mystery man, as an artist, as a man, and as a poet.

Despite the tests that fate sent the artist, is hard to find a person happier than Shevchenko in the world history. He was happy not only because he himself loved, and women loved him, feeling in him earthly strength and spiritual depth and power. He was happy that he experienced the highest pleasure, having discovered a poet and an artist in himself. He proved himself as a painter, etcher, and master of drawing and watercolors, and sepia and engravings, tried himself in sculpture and carving.

The culmination of the event was the awarding of winners of competitions held at the university, such as a contest of expressive reading of poems, an essay contest, an illustration contest for Taras Shevchenko’s works, a thematic photo contest “Zore moia vechirniaia…” (My evening down).

Shevchenko as a great and ever-living phenomenon is inexhaustible and endless. By the will of history, he is identified with Ukraine, Shevchenko’s existence continues, absorbing new days and new experiences of the people, calling for new pains and thoughts, becoming new tablets of fate, taking on our sins and evil accounts of enemies.

80 years old Luhansk National University bears the glorious name of Taras Shevchenko. And we, students and teachers of the Taras Shevchenko University not only appreciate the creative work of the master of the Ukrainian word, but also we multiply the immortal glory of the Great Kobzar by our daily labor.
