Shevchenko’s hour at the ICA
11.3.2019
An open curatorial hour dedicated to the 205th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birthday was held at the Institute of Culture and Arts.
The event was attended not only by students, but also teachers and guests of the Institute. Students majoring in Musical Arts told about the use of the poet’s poems in modern songs, which everyone had the opportunity to listen to; students majoring in Fine Arts demonstrated both Shevchenko’s artistic abilities and modern interpretations of the image of Kobzar in street and media art. Students majoring in Audiovisual Art and Production conducted an excursion into the past of Shevchenko with the help of his autobiography, and also modeled the discussion that developed after.
The event was also attended by a special guest, the winner of the Chervona Ruta festival and the leader of the Poltava rock band Deltora, who sang a few songs on Shevchenko’s poems, in particular, “Zapovit” (Testament) and “Mykyta Shvachka” (Mykyta Seamstress).
The curatorial hour concluded the discussion on the modern interpretation of Shevchenko’s image, in particular, the exhibition “Quantum leap of Shevchenko” was discussed. Students discussed the issue of perception of Shevchenko and his activities in the modern world. The thoughts of those present were divided. Some believed that if Shevchenko lived in our time, he was not that Shevchenko as we know him, and some would say that, on the contrary, his activity would change our attitude to the modern world.
