“English for Universities”

Presentation of the results of the British Council’s project “English for Universities”.
The project of the British Council “English for Universities”, initiated with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in 2014, is being completed. Within five years, 32 universities of Ukraine have become participants of the project. The presentation of the result of the project took place on February 19, 2019 in Kiev.
State institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” as a project participant was invited to visit an event dedicated to the presentation of the results of the five-year project of the British Council “English for Universities”. From the Faculty of Foreign Languages the event was attended by: Shekhavtsova Svitlana Oleksandrivna – Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department, Byndas Olena Mykolaivna – Head of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Morozova Marharyta Viacheslavivna – Vice Dean for Social and Humanitarian Work, Lecturer of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department.
The speakers at the presentation were Simon Williams, Director of the British Council in Ukraine, Professor Simon Borg, as well as Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine. During the presentation of the results, project consultant, Professor Simon Borg, spoke about the changes and improvements in the field of teaching English in the professional direction and teaching professional subjects in English, as an important tool in the process of internationalization.
The professor conducted an independent study of the project results and the achievements of the participating universities. In October and November 2018, he visited 8 universities, conducted a survey among 2500 students, a number of interviews and observations of 40 classes in English and special subjects in English.
Also, the professor gave a number of tips on how to improve the language teaching and learning in English in Ukrainian universities in the future. During the event, there was an opportunity to ask questions to Professor Simon Borg and to speak with colleagues from 32 universities participating in the project.
