Showing at the Universiade-2015

On a positive note our athletes finished their performance at the Universiade-2015. Competitions were held in Kharkiv with the participation of LNU athletes.

A team of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University consisted of students of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports and Starobilsk branch. Starts of our athletes were bright and vivid. As expected, Natalia Strohova got through to the final round on 100 m and 200 m run, proved that she was a real fighter and deservedly won two silver medals, losing only to the first number of the national team N. Pohrebniak (Kharkiv). This is a great success of our athlete.

Anna Shelekh was actively fighting for victory in pole jump. She had to overcome many difficulties to get to Kharkiv. To transport a long pole one need special transport. In peacetime this problem was solved in a freight train car. This year Ania had to hire a car for a trip to the Universiade. Our athlete was worthily fighting for victory and the silver medal was the reward for her dedication.

4 x 100 m relay turned out challenging for our quartet of athletes (O. Kukota, A. Lukashuk, P. Vetlin, S. Koponaiko). Quite easily our athletes came to the final but in the final run, with a high level of competition, they just pulled out the third place at the last meters. An important contribution to this success was made by Serhii Koponaiko who participated in the relay due to his own desire and made almost impossible things having run perfectly the final stage of the relay. Serhii can be called our hero of Universiade. He confirmed the reputation of the best hurdler of the country. He had no equal in 110 meters hurdles. He won for our university the only gold medal and he is a prospective candidate to participate in the World Universiade which will be held in South Korea in summer.

Also Artem Lukashuk, Pavlo Vetlin Mariia Shmidova and Lidiia Matviichuk were good in individual program. So, LNU students won 8 medals (1 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze) having proved a high level of reputation of our university.

We wish our athletes success in domestic and international arenas!
