World AIDS Day

On November 30, an event dedicated to World AIDS Day was held at the University with the support of the Red Cross Society and the head of the Social Service of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University Olena Dukhova.

In the world, people began to celebrate this day on December 1, 1988 at the initiative of the World Health Organization. This year the event was held in the form of a lecture by Larisa Serhiivna Krasiuk – director of the Regional Center for Social Services for Families, Children and Youth of the Starobilsk District State Administration. She told students about the importance of this day and the reasons why it is worth remembering.

Tetiana Volodymyrivna Dontsova, the doctor of the Cabinet “Doverie”, told in more detail about the history of occurrence, methods of prevention and the greatest danger posed by HIV and AIDS. One of the main problems of treatment is late treatment to the doctor, because most people are embarrassed to take the test, which in turn can save their lives. Doctors urge you not to be shy and to do regular tests to preserve your own health. Timely detection of HIV infection in the human body no longer sounds like a sentence. Today in Ukraine, the available specific treatment for HIV infection, qualitatively improves and prolongs the life of an infected person.

Viktoria Krylova, a volunteer for the Red Cross, spoke about the activities of the company in Ukraine. The volunteers, together with student activists, decided to hold an action as a sign of the fight against AIDS and give the viewers informational leaflets.

In honor of the memory of those who died from the virus, in the evening of the same day, students conducted a candlestick course of solidarity with HIV-infected people. World AIDS Day allows reflecting on the value of human life and health. Be careful, do not give AIDS a chance!
