Badminton Competitions
17.5.2015
Badminton competitions as a part of Universiade – 2015 were conducted in Kyiv from April 22 to April 26. LNU was represented by the graduate of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports.
Competition participant – Krystyna Varfolomieieva (now she is a lecturer at Lysychansk Pedagogical College of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University).
Badminton competitions are held by the cup system. Participants’ rating and draw are of great importance. In quarter-final Krystyna with good chances for prize places came to the first qualifying round with the future winner – Yuliia Kazarynova (Mykolaiv). The game was challenging and principal. With a score of 1:1 (to get a victory in badminton a player must win two games) the fight turned into the game of nervous when one player maintained just two-point lead over the rival. Such game was till reaching a score of 17:17. And only in this point the bigger experience of future champion had its affect. Krystyna was fighting to the last. Unfortunately, this loss deprived her of the opportunity to fight for the prize places. In the game for the 5 – 8 places our sportswoman firmly won over Yelizaveta Zharkaia (the third qualifying round) from Kharkiv with a score of 2:0. It must be admitted that both Kazarynova and Zharkaia are the existing members of the national team of Ukraine now. As the result, Varfolomieieva took the honor sixth place. This is the highest achievement of our students for today.
Cooperation of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University with Luhansk Regional Department (branch) of Committee of Physical Education and Sports of the MES of Ukraine has already become a good tradition.
