LNU Graduate Has Been Confirmed as the Rector

Serhii Savchenko – LNU graduate – has been confirmed as the new Rector of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. The elections were conducted at the university yesterday, on May 14.

The lecturers, employees and students voted “for” and “against” the single candidate.

Serhii Viktorovych graduated from the university in 1981 and then after 5 years he got a job there and definitely engaged himself with LNU. Step by step he has climbed career ladder. So far, he has held key positions for about 10 years.

“Serhii Viktorovych is a person who has come together with the university a path from Voroshylovhrad Pedagogical Institute to Luhansk National University. On top of all of that, in summer 2014, when Luhansk was under bombarding, he together with other prorectors showed dedication to our Alma Mater. They were trying to save the university in Luhansk to the last,” – the Head of Marketing Department of LNU Ihor Lysenko speak about Savchenko.

As judged by the election results, the majority of voters thinks like the main marketing specialist of the university. 90.9% of election participants checked “For”.

People had started coming even before the polling stations opened. According to the Chair of Central Election Committee Viktor Drel, there was a continuous stream of people from 9 in the morning and till 3 o’clock at all polling stations. There were six stations in total. One of them was in Starobilsk and the other ones were in subdivisions of LNU – Kreminna, Shchastia, Rubizhne (2 stations) and Lysychansk. Voter turnout was 92.8%.

We remind that the elections were conducted according to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 50-K as of 20.02.2015 on the announcement of a competition to fill the vacancy of rector of LNU.
