Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language

Students and teachers of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University celebrated the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language.

The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is a state holiday, which is annually celebrated in Ukraine on November 9th. It was established by presidential decree in support of the initiative of public organizations and taking into account the important role of the Ukrainian language in the consolidation of Ukrainian society.

Teachers and students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University cherish the beauty and melody of the Ukrainian language and are true connoisseurs of the classics of native literature, modern poets and prose writers.

The festive day began with the scientific-practical conference “Slobozhanska Conversation”, which was held by the Department of Ukrainian Philology and General Linguistics. Scientists discussed topical issues of linguistics, analyzed the communicative speech creativity of communicants, highlighted the role of the information space in shaping culture and organizing learning and communication space in bilingualism.

The conference was attended by teachers from all over Ukraine. Scientific articles and theses were sent by students and teachers, and representatives of the National Technical University “Dnipro Polytechnic” joined via Skype communication.

The continuation of this day was the writing of the All-Ukrainian dictation of national unity, which sounded on the air of the Ukrainian Radio. Today, students, teachers and staff of our University joined the event and tested their knowledge of their native language. The Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications Tetiana Pinchuk noted that this is already the eighteenth radio dictatorship, which helps to unite all Ukrainians in general, and all Shevchenko University. At the end of the dictation, students shared their impressions. Tetiana Tsarevska, 3rd year student, mentioned: “This year the dictation was simple, so I think I wrote great. But whatever the result, it’s still a good opportunity to test your knowledge and restore it.”

So, this day once again reminded all Ukrainians that the language is the soul of the people, its spiritual component and national pride. The Day of Writing and Language is a reason to plunge deeper into the history of our country and remember the names of those who joined the struggle for the freedom and independence of the motherland.
