“At the risk of one’s life. Poles save Jews during the Holocaust”. It was the name of the exhibition in the Luhansk Regional Museum of Local Lore, which today was visited by students of the Institute of Economy and Business.

The photo exhibition was created as part of the museum project “Polish Righteousness – the Return of Memory”, which is based on the unique documentary materials of the Righteous and the Jews who survived the Holocaust.

The Poles who witnessed the Holocaust survived this experience in an exceptional way. They not only competed with the brutal terror of the German invader, but also opposed the brutal Hitler extermination of their Jewish neighbors.

In occupied Poland, unlike in other countries of Western Europe, the death penalty was threatening for helping the Jews. Despite this, many Poles resisted evil and saved the Jews. For the life of each saved, they risked not only their lives, but also the lives of their families. Thanks to the caring, thousands of Polish Jews were saved. Part of the rescuers was marked by the title “Righteous Among the Nations” in Jerusalem by the Yad Vashem Institute.

The exhibition, which presents the face, history and motivation of Poles who saved Jews during the occupation, was created with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.

Students enthusiastically looked through photos of faces of rescuer Poles who were not afraid to come to the defense of Jews in difficult occupation conditions, learned about the memories and life stories that today seem incredible to us, and once again convinced that humanity, humanism save the world.
