Academic Council Meeting

A scheduled meeting of the Academic Council was held at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Three were main issues on the agenda:

  • about the results of the admission campaign in 2018 and preparation for its conduct in 2019;
  • about the activities of philological departments of the University;
  • competitive affairs.

A report on the results of the admission campaign in 2018 and preparations for its implementation in 2019 were made by Ya.I. Yurkiv and N.Yu. Matsai Having heard and discussed the reports of the responsible secretary of the Admission Committee and the head of the Educational Center Donbas-Ukraine, the Academic Council noted that the University and its structural subdivisions ensured a satisfactory organization of admission and enrollment to all educational degrees and educational qualification levels and forms of education in 2018.

The total amount of intake of students to the university, taking into account all separate subdivisions and levels, was 3285 people: 561 for the educational level Junior Specialist, 1434 for the educational level Bachelor, 1260 for the master’s degree, 25 for the PhD, 5 for the Doctor of Science.

During the current admission campaign, the Educational Center “Donbas-Ukraine” provided over 770 consultations and 293 applicants were registered, who expressed a desire to study at our University and its separate subdivisions. 219 people, who were registered at this Center, started education at their first year at the educational level Bachelor.

The members of the Academic Council also identified a number of factors that hindered the success of the admission campaign, including a decrease in the number of school graduates in Ukraine and a decrease in the number of those registered for the external independent evaluation.

Dmytro Uzhchenko, Leonid Vakhovskyi and Oleksandr Babichev made a report on the activities of the university philological departments. Having heard and discussed the reports of the vice-rectors for scientific and pedagogical work, the Academic Council noted that the teaching staff of the philological departments includes 67 full-time and 20 part-time employees.

The departments have developed educational and methodological support for academic disciplines, including work programs, which are annually updated and approved at the meetings of the departments, teaching aids, guidelines, and tasks for individual and independent work.

In the academic year 2017–2018, philologists explore 11 comprehensive research topics, 6 of which have a state registration number. In addition, each teacher performs his own research topic, approved at the meeting of the department. The scientific activity of the departments is evidenced by the organization and participation of teachers in scientific conferences at various levels: during 2017, philological departments organized 3 international and 10 All-Ukrainian scientific conferences, and teachers participated in 34 international conferences and conferences with international participation, 50 All-Russian and 5 regional conferences.

The teachers of philological departments pay considerable attention to the development of student science. Students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications won 17 prizes at the All-Ukrainian, Regional and University student research contests. A student of The Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​took part in the All-Ukrainian Olympiad in Chinese (11th place). Under the guidance of scientists of the philological departments, 200 student research articles were published.

Philological departments of the University are actively involved in the system of national-patriotic education of students in the framework of the social and humanitarian work of institutes and faculties; implement the objectives of the educational program of the national-patriotic education of student youth of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

At the same time, the philological departments of the university need to strengthen individual work with young people, especially with students from territories temporarily not controlled by Ukraine and from the joint operations area.

The Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Dmytro Uzhchenko spoke about the competitive affairs. Scientists were elected by secret ballot as head of the Department of Biology and Agronomy, head of the Department of Landscape Gardening and Ecology, head of the Department of Romance and Germanic philology, head of the Department of Preschool and Primary Education, as well as head of the Department of Social Work.

Among the various they recommended for printing collections of scientific papers, a collection of materials of the III All-Ukrainian Student Scientific-Practical Conference “Romance and Germanic languages ​​in the modern intercultural space”, approved the themes of candidate’s theses and the regulation “On the rating assessment of scientific activities of scientific and pedagogical workers of SI “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”.
