Conference in Lviv

The All-Ukrainian Scientific-Practical Conference “Childhood and Literature: Poetics, Methods, Didactics” was held in Lviv on the initiative of the Department of Philological Disciplines of LTSNU.

Literature for children and youth is a segment of artistic creativity with pronounced targeting, it is of the highest priority in the children’s reading circle, therefore it is not by chance that it occupies an important place in the educational process of educational institutions in Ukraine. Its rapid development in recent decades, the heightened attention of literary critics, sociologists, and publishing workers to creativity for children give reason to speak of it as a bright and original phenomenon.

October 18 – 19 at the initiative of the Department of Philological Disciplines of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was held All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference” Childhood and Literature: Poetics, Methods, Didactics”, organized in conjunction with the Department of Primary and Preschool Education of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The venue was the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

The conference was attended by more than 50 scientists from different parts of Ukraine: Kyiv, Lviv, Drohobych, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Bila Tserkva, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Starobilsk. The conference was opened by the coordinator from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Professor, Head of the Department of World Literature Lidia Matsevko-Bekerska.

A welcoming speech was made by the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of LNU, chairman of the organizing committee Prof. Yaroslav Garasim; Rector of LTSNU, prof. Serhii Savchenko (video message), Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of LTSNU, Prof. Olena Karaman (video message), Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education of LNU, Assoc. Dmytro Gertsiuk.

During the conference, the following sections worked: “Poetological discourse of childhood in Ukrainian and world literature”, “Literature for children and youth: practical and methodological aspects”, “Problems of teaching literature in educational institutions of different levels”, “Language of works for children and about children: structural and pragmatic aspects”.

This conference acquired particular relevance due to changes in the educational system in Ukraine, the start of the New Ukrainian School, which is closely related to the problems of literary education in institutions of various levels. Therefore, it is no coincidence that the focus was the issues of methodological solutions to enhance reading, linguistic features of works for children of different genres and their influence on the child’s speech development, the promotion of methanology competence reading.

An interesting was the cultural program organized by the owners: an excursion to the museum of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, watching the play “Polianna” in the National Academic Ukrainian Drama Theater named after Maria Zankovetska, visiting the literary and musical composition “In the depths of autumn”, which was prepared by the Department of Primary and Preschool Education of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

The conference will be remembered for its high level of preparation, constructive dialogue, interesting acquaintances, and the city of Lviv with its hospitality and beautiful autumn weather.
