“Trip to the geological past of our planet”

An excursion for students of colleges was held in the geological museum of the University.
In the last academic year, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University celebrated the 95th anniversary of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the geological museum was solemnly opened, where samples of minerals, rocks, petrified remains of fauna and flora were collected. The restoration of the collection and organization of the museum was completely undertaken by the Honored Professor of our University, well-known paleontologist-scientist, expert in ichthyofauna, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Mykola Udovichenko. According to him, such a museum is the only one in the East of Ukraine, and the samples that are presented in the collections are unique. Replenishment of the collection of our museum is due to the conduct of scientific and educational expeditions by teachers of the Department of Geography, students studying in the specialties of “Earth Sciences” and “Secondary Education. Geography”, with the support of scientists from other higher educational institutions. Therefore, today the geological museum of LTSNU is a unique platform for research and teaching work of teachers and students. Also it has cognitive and educational significance for schoolchildren.
Students of the College of LTSNU and the Starobilsk Humanitarian and Pedagogical College came to the first excursion to the geological museum of our University in this academic year came.
During the excursion, Mykola Ivanovych told the youth about the history of the creation of the university museum in Starobilsk, since after a forced evacuation a large number of exhibits were lost. Also, visitors were introduced to various minerals collected from many corners of the globe, with a variety of rocks and the main geological processes under which they were formed. The history of the geological development of the territory of Ukraine was disclosed, and visitors together with Mykola Ivanovych made a trip to the geological past of our country with the help of various means of museum exposition.
At the end of the excursion, Mykola Ivanovych Udovichenko invited the young people to the following excursions with the new expositions of the museum.
