On August 3, the student archaeological detachment returned to the University, which was in the National Historic and Archaeological Reserve “Olvia” for two weeks.

During the archaeological practice, students-historians took part in the long-term study of the ancient city, which was founded by Greek immigrants in the 7th century BC. The main task of young archaeologists was the search for the ancient Greek theater, which existed on the territory of Olvia. That is why the excavation, on which they worked, was called the T-4 (Theater – 4).

During the archaeological research, students found the remains of an ancient building, which, perhaps, was part of the architectural structure of the theater. Also, many ceramic fragments of the Greek and Roman periods of the history of the ancient city were found, ancient coins and remains of statuettes of local deities.

Free time of participants was held in communication with Olvian veterans – former students, who are now happy to visit the ancient city as volunteers. The latter organized for the newcomers a number of unforgettable Olvian holidays, which for a long time had been the “highlight” of the Luhansk archaeological detachment. The most outstanding event was “Dedication to Comanche” – stylized under the Indian initiation, the rite of dedicating students to the Olviyans. The most active veterans were Mykyta Bolotsky, Andrii Larionov, Oleksandr Hotovschikov, Oleksandra Pavlova.

Let us note that the present Olvian expedition is the fiftieth. The work of the archaeological detachment was resumed after a three-year break, connected with the military conflict in the East of Ukraine.
