Participation in the Regional Seminar

The head of the Department of Production Technologies and Professional Education took part in the Regional Instructive and Methodological Seminar.

May 21, 2018 in the Luhansk Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education hosted the Regional instructive and methodical seminar “Implementation of the competence approach during the study of technology in institutions of general secondary education” for teachers of labor training and technologies.

Heads of district methodical associations of teachers of labor training, teachers of labor training of the Luhansk region came to the seminar.

At the seminar, the head of the Department of Production Technologies and Professional Education of the Educational and Research Institute of Commerce, Servicing Technologies and Tourism, Associate Professor Viktor Burdun made a report.

In the first part of his speech, he spoke about the tasks facing teachers of labor training in the conditions of the New Ukrainian School. Particular attention was paid to the fact that teachers of labor training, along with other teachers of the general educational institution, should form the key competencies defined by the Law of Ukraine “On Education” and the New Ukrainian School. He also noted that teachers of labor training have more opportunities to form these competencies, thanks to the applied nature of the subject.

In the second part of the speech, Viktor Burdun spoke about the specifics of the introduction of STEM education in general and out-of-school educational institutions of Ukraine and the role of the teacher of labor training in this process. He noted that the STEM-oriented approach to teaching promotes the popularization of engineering and technological professions among young people, raises the students’ awareness of the possibility of their career in engineering and technology. He spoke about the actual directions of STEM-education, the most common means of training for the implementation of STEM-education.

At the end of the speech, Viktor Burdun told about the format of the IV stage of the All-Ukrainian Pupils Olympiad on labor training and technology, where he was the chairman of the jury. Separately, the success of the team of the Luhansk region at the Olympiad was noted. Also Viktor Burdun acquainted the teachers with the tasks that were at the Olympiad, showed photos of the brightest and most interesting products made by the pupils.
