Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University took part in the meeting on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation and the 73rd anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in the Second World War.
Years, decades pass, the face of the planet changes, and with it the life of mankind, its thoughts and dreams change. The farther the “fiery years of the war” are hiding in the historical sky, the greater the heroic deed of our people.
On May 9, lecturers, staff and students of the University took part in the meeting dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation and the 73rd anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in World War II. The event was also attended by veterans of the Second World War, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, veterans and combatants in Afghanistan, participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl disaster, servicemen of the Luhansk Frontier Detachment, as well as delegation of institutions, work collectives, residents and guests of Starobilsk district. The meeting was held at the Memorial Complex.
Students of the Starobilsk district assigned the Garland of Glory to eternal fire, the Glory Hall and the Brotherly Grave as a sign of the unfading memory of the heroic deed of the soldiers-liberators. Then a victorious volley sounded.
A minute of silence honored the memory of those who died at the fronts. Participants in the meeting led by the first district leaders laid flowers to the eternal fire.
“The memory of World War II is timeless. The people of Ukraine are one of those who lost an incredibly large number of their sons and daughters in this world-wide tragedy. Without regretting a soul or body, the people of Ukraine heroically and bravely fought for peace and freedom from the Nazi invaders”, – the Rector of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University Serhii Savchenko said.
These events, recorded in history, awaken in each of us a sense of pride in the feat of our people. We are proud of the glory of those who brought the expected peace to the world and Ukraine, and bow our heads before the memory of the fallen in the Second World War. 73 years after the Great Victory, the people of Ukraine once again defend the extracted freedom and integrity of the state, showing courage and heroism, as it was during the Second World War. The historical memory of victory requires the restoration of the state sovereignty of Ukraine and the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Donbas.
Ukrainian land took the tears of mothers, wives, sisters, and children. Recollecting all of you, veterans, participants in the Great Patriotic War, we will always have May flowers that have sprouted from those tears. Therefore, it is not by chance that red poppies are blossoming over Ukrainian land – it is a symbol of memory about you. And the lilac smells like a symbol of peace and tranquility under the native sky.
Thanks for the victory!
