The postgraduate course (specialty 201 Agronomy) under the supervision of the head of the Biology Department, Professor Serhii Masliyov, well-known agronomist in Ukraine, has been working at the Biology Department for the second year in a row.
Spring is a hot season for agronomists, and for our scientists. In accordance with the topic of the research work of the Department of Biology, they laid experimental demonstration sites of field experiments to address such issues: the determination of agrobiological features of growth, development and yielding of maize food subspecies; development of measures to increase the effectiveness of mineral and bacterial fertilizers; revealing the influence of methods of primary and pre-sowing soil treatments on the yield of food subspecies of maize; determination of the yield of maize depending on the timing and methods of sowing and seeding rates; establishing the effectiveness of a combination of mechanical and chemical measures of weed control in crops of food subspecies of maize. In the experiments, new perspective varieties and hybrids of maize and sunflower domestic selection were used.
The students of the bachelor’s degree majoring in “Agronomics” have started to be involved in the scientific research of the Biology Department, that gives them an opportunity to acquire practical skills and to choose a topic for their own researches.
