Presentation of the book “Sofia Rusova. Memoirs”
5.5.2018
On May 4, teachers and students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages took part in the presentation of the book “Sofia Rusova. Memoirs”.
The book belongs to the pen of an outstanding Ukrainian teacher and public figure and covers the period of her life from 1856 to 1925. The author of the memoirs lived a great and tragic life, on the pages of which not only personal events were reflected, but also the history of our people.
The words of Sofia Rusova, spoken almost 100 years ago: “People who do not have their own school and do not care about it, will have economic poverty and cultural death”, are very true for modern Ukrainian teachers.
Mykola Kulchytskyy presented a very interesting memoir in the Poltava Regional Scientific Library named after I. Kotliarevsky. He is a well-known Ukrainian Soviet dissident, politician, chairman of the Poltava regional association of the All-Ukrainian Society “Prosvita”.
The present youth is deeply influenced not only by the facts of Sofia Rusova’s biography, but also by the beautiful poetry and song accompaniment of this presentationa, which was prepared by Poltava artists and musicians.
The publication of the book was made possible by the financial support of the Ukrainian Language Society in the United States, in particular the Bodnarukov family – Vera and Bogdan from the city of Chicago, who have been supporting the regional associations “Prosvita” named after Taras Shevchenko for many years.
