The Academic Council Meeting
28.4.2018
A joint meeting of the Academic Council and the conference of the university labor collective was held at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
The main issue on the educational process at the University was discussed on the agenda.
A report on the educational process at the University was made by Dmytro Uzhchenko. The co-rapporteur was Leonid Vakhovskyi. Having heard and discussed the reports of Vice-Rectors fro Scientific and Pedagogical Work, the Academic Council noted that the educational process at the University is regulated by the Regulations on the organization of the educational process at Lugansk Taras Shevchenko National University and the procedure for the preparation of applicants for higher education for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science in higher educational institutions.
At the University, the organization of the educational process met the requirements. So, curricula and educational programs, educational and methodological support for educational components have been developed for all specialties; contracts with the bases of practices concluded, in particular for the development of dual education; the schedules of the educational process were formed in accordance with the approved position; attestation of applicants for higher education is being conducted; recommendations for the implementation of practical tasks and materials for independent work of students were posted on the website of distance learning.
The educational process includes lectures, seminars, independent work, practical training, auditing exercises and using the Moodle distance learning platform.
At the same time, the Academic Council notes that there are problems in the organization of the educational process that need to be addressed. Among them, the conservative traditionality in the work of some teachers, the inability to restructure under modern conditions, which causes their low activity in interaction with students, the inadequacy of academic groups and the resulting discrepancy between the actual workload of teachers and the insufficient attention of the departments to the problems of academic integrity.
Tetiana Pinchuk and Illia Kononov took part in the discussion. Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications stressed that the language of the educational process as a system of scientific, methodological and pedagogical activities aimed at developing the personality through the formation and application of its competencies, according to the Law of Ukraine “On Education”, is the state language. In our educational institution, the educational process is carried out mainly in the state language. Certain conditions make it impossible to conduct classes in the state language for foreign students, since most of them have a low level of proficiency even in Russian. The University is now located in the agricultural zone of the Luhansk region, where a network of schools with the Ukrainian language of teaching is located. This means that we are dealing with first-year students who studied all subjects in the Ukrainian language. Therefore, it is necessary to help the graduate of our university to consolidate the steady professional knowledge and skills with the means of the state language, to give the opportunity to feel confident in any production activity or business, using the state language, to open prospects for public work and public service. Knowledge of the state language and the language of interethnic communication – English, as well as other languages will ensure the young citizen of Ukraine further professional growth.
The head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology acquainted those present with the peculiarities of teaching postgraduate students of all specialties, they are preparing to obtain a Ph.D. degree, the course “Modern Scientific Revolution and Methodology of Scientific Knowledge”. This course is designed to create in postgraduate students the understanding that science is a holistic process of scientific knowledge. One should deal with the solution of specific problems, but also see the general horizon of science. Therefore, students learn about the inflationary cosmology, modern molecular biology, and achievements of social sciences in terms of their influence on the methodology of scientific knowledge.
Among the miscellaneous, it was recommended for printing educational and methodological manuals and a collection of materials of the scientific and practical conference; theses for the Ph.D. were approved.
A joint decision of the conference of the labor collective and the Academic Council approved the anti-corruption program of the University for 2018-2020 and changes were made to the University Charter in connection with the inclusion of the Kreminna Vocational Lyceum in the structure of the Regional Center for Vocational Education of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
