Meeting with representatives of the Red Cross

On April 26, a meeting of students and teachers with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was held at LTSNU.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss directly the history of the organization and its activities on the territory of the Luhansk region in the conditions of armed conflict.

During the event, it was noted that the ICRC is in dialogue with organizations and responsible persons of both sides of the conflict in order to help people. The assistance consists in providing the necessary things, including: rehabilitation of housing and water supply, support of health care (medical care and medicines), psychological and psychosocial support, caring for the dead, and economic security. So, at the checkpoint “Stanitsa Luhanska” was created a separate medical center, where people receive first aid, drinking water, tea, coffee, can relax or call their relatives.

Lorenzo Redalie, Head of Sub-Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, spoke about the work of the Red Cross, and said: “Our organization is impartial, neutral and independent, whose goals and objectives are exclusively humanitarian in nature and are to protect the life and dignity of people who suffered due to armed conflict and other situations, and provide assistance. “

Another topic for discussion was International Humanitarian Law and its application. They discussed the means and methods of war, which are prohibited by this right, as well as the protection afforded by international humanitarian law to refugees and internally displaced persons.

After the meeting, the parties agreed on further fruitful cooperation.
