The Honorary Professor of LTSNU, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Geography Department Vasyl Ivanovych Zhadan passed out of life.
The memory of him will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him as a teacher, colleague and Vice-Rector.
He began his labor activity in 1966. In 1973, he graduated with honors from the Geology and Geography Department of the Kharkiv A.M. Gorky State University in the specialty “Geography”. From 1974 to 2014, he worked at the Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, first as an assistant, then as a senior lecturer, Associate Professor, Honorary Professor.
In 1984, he defended his thesis on the topic “Structural-morphological analysis and classification of natural landscapes of the Donetsk ridge and peripheral plains”. Since 1987, he has been an Assistant Professor. In 2004, he was awarded with the title of “Honorary Professor of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”.
He held the post of the academic secretary of the University Academic Council. During the period 1997 – 2008, he held the post of Vice-Rector for Educational (later – Scientific and Pedagogical) Work of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
The scientific activity is connected with the problems of modern landscape science and rational nature management, the application of quantitative methods in physical geography. He developed a series of multi-scale landscape maps of Donbas within the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, used for the edition of landscape maps and schemes for physiographic division of Ukraine, geographical atlases and territorial integrated conservation schemes for the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
In 1998, he was awarded with the title “Excellent in Education of Ukraine”, in 2009 – “Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine”. In 2001, he was awarded with the Certificate of Honor of the Luhansk Regional State Administration and the Regional Council. He was the author of more than 80 scientific papers, including:
