Memory of the heroes
13.4.2018
Students and teachers of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University honored the memory of the soldiers who died for the independence of Ukraine.
The terrible events of 2014 stirred up the life of our state. The peace-loving Ukrainian people were forced once again to defend their right to the decent and independent life. The war in the east of Ukraine was a test for Ukrainians of unity, solidarity, patriotism and the ability to sacrifice for the sake of their Motherland. Heroes who gave their lives for the peaceful future of Ukraine, have forever entered the history of the state.
Defenders of our state, who defended the territorial integrity of the country at the cost of their own lives, were buried at the city cemetery in the city of Starobilsk. Today local residents, students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, military men, schoolchildren, volunteers and activists gathered together to honor the memory of the dead soldiers and to lay flowers to the graves of the heroes.
The Patriarchate Priest Volodymyr Bespaly held a prayer service for the dead soldiers, congratulated all those present on the Easter week, and called for saving the peace and remembering the fallen heroes.
The deputy chairman of the Starobilsk District Council S.A. Domarev, the fighter of the battalion “Aidar” M.V. Tkachuk and the captain of the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade O.V. Mishchenko addressed all those present. They once again stressed the great role of the dead soldiers in preserving the territorial integrity and development of independent Ukraine.
The volunteer Nadiia Neshcheret read her own poems about the plight of Ukrainian defenders and mothers who are waiting for the return of their sons.
On the eve of Easter, schoolchildren and activists from different parts of Ukraine sent 100 wreaths to Starobilsk land to honor the memory of the dead soldiers. At the end of the event, government officials, volunteers, teachers, students and schoolchildren laid flowers to the graves of heroes.
