World Health Day

The Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports hosted an event dedicated to World Health Day.

Exactly 70 years ago, at the International Conference, which was held in New York, the World Health Organization was founded. In honor of this event every year on April 7, the world celebrates the Day of Health, the theme of which is chosen on the basis of the most pressing health problems. In 2018, the theme of World Health Day was formulated as follows: Universal coverage of health services: for everyone and everywhere. The slogan of the company was the phrase “Health for All”.

According to WHO, at least half of the world’s people today are not able to receive basic health services, and more than 2 billion – do not have access to essential medicines. At the same time, experts insist that universal coverage of high-quality medical services is quite achievable, but for this it is necessary that health systems are oriented not at diseases and institutions, but at people. This is exactly what the medical reform in Ukraine is aimed at, which started in April with changes affecting the primary link of the national health system. Within the framework of the “Doctor for Every Family”, each Ukrainian will be able to sign a declaration with a family doctor, therapist or pediatrician, and from July 2018, the National Health Service of Ukraine will direct funds from general taxes to the doctor chosen by a particular person.

Discussion of these and other important issues was dedicated to the event organized by the Department of Physical Rehabilitation and Human Health of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports, which was held in the Kreminna district library for children. The moderator of the discussion was the head of the department, the senior lecturer Oleg Vinogradov, who acquainted those present with the activities of WHO, the history and main ideas of the World Health Day and the peculiarities of the national medical reform, namely the process of choosing a primary care physician and concluding a medical declaration.

It is understandable that the greatest interest among those present at the meeting was caused by the issues of reforming the national healthcare system. The participants of the event discussed many issues, most of which concerned the accessibility and quality of medical care in the new environment. But even those skeptical about the changes taking place in the healthcare system in Ukraine recognized the need to continue reforms. The general opinion of the participants is vividly illustrated by Elon Musk’s quote at the end of the meeting: “Some people don’t like changebut you need to embrace change if the alternative is a disaster.. “

We hope that the slogan “Health for All” thanks to the new medical reform will become a reality in the foreseeable future.

The staff of the Department of Physical Rehabilitation and Human Health expresses sincere gratitude to the children’s library of the Kreminna region for their help in organizing the event.
