“Earth Hour”
28.3.2018
On March 24, students and teachers took part in the “Earth Hour” action.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University has joined the world’s largest environmental movement, which calls on hundreds of millions of people around the world to change something in their lives for the sake of the Planet, to the Earth Hour action. The purpose of this action is that at the appointed time people in different countries of the world turn off the lights and other electrical appliances for one hour.
Turning off the light cannot significantly improve the ecological situation on Earth, but this action, according to the organizers, will help many inhabitants of our planet to understand that saving energy will eventually reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere, and will enable every indifferent man to contribute to the preservation of the health of our planet.
March 24 at 20:30, students and teachers turned off the light for one hour. This was a symbol of unity with the world community in the desire to protect nature.
In addition to the symbolic switching-off of light for 60 minutes, this action emphasizes the necessity and unconditional benefit of the daily actions of every citizen, company and government in the field of energy efficiency, preservation of the environment, and careful use of resources to overcome environmental problems and achieve harmony with nature.
Therefore, students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences support the ecological state of the environment not only on this day, but also throughout the year: they hang bird feeders in winter, extinguish fires in nature, help trees to get rid of snow load, and participate in the cleaning of territories.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences calls on everyone not to forget that the Earth Hour is just the beginning. Think about our Planet and help it every day.
