Students of the LTSNU College took part in the International Mathematics Competition “Kangaroo – 2018”.
The founder of the game is Peter Holloran, Professor of Mathematics from Sydney, who in the 80s of the 20th century organized a new game-contest for Australian schoolchildren. He picked up tasks with variants of answers, which are checked by the computer. Thousands of pupils could participate in the game at the same time; it was a great success. In the 1990s, more than 500 000 participants from 30 countries, including Ukraine, participated in the game.
For the first time the contest-game “Kangaroo” in our country was held in 1997 in the Lviv region. The peculiarity of the competition is that there are no winners or losers. Everyone knows that this is primarily a personal victory. The contest “Kangaroo” aims not only to interest children in mathematics, it is an attempt to unite around the solution of common problems of teachers and mathematics teachers from different regions of Ukraine. Among the “Kangaroo” players are more than 20 prizewinners of International Subject Olympiads and thousands of children who were interested in mathematics for the first time during the contest.
The aim of the competition is to attract pupils and students to an interesting, informative world of mathematics. The game is interesting, as prizewinners of the All-Ukrainian Olympiads in different subjects, and those who are just beginning to learn the basics of this wonderful science – mathematics. 18 students from different groups of the College took part in the competition. The participants of the event had the opportunity to perform interesting tasks and develop their mathematical abilities and skills.
