To Shevchenko through the ages

Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University took part in the meeting on the occasion of the 204th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth.

Our University bears the name of the genius of literary and philosophical thought, artist, glorious son of the Ukrainian nation – Taras Shevchenko. On the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Great Kobzar, a large meeting was held near the monument to Taras Shevchenko in the city of Starobilsk on March 9. Among the participants of the event were representatives of the authorities, local self-government bodies, public organizations and activists, teachers, staff and students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Starobilsk citizens and guests of the city gather each year near the monument to express their love and respect to the great enlightener of the Ukrainian nation. The celebration began with the performance of the Ukrainian anthem. The teacher of our University Nadiya Protasova sang the song “Orle Sizy”.

Shevchenko’s poetry still evokes in people a sense of pride and inspires poetic lines. The participant of the “Author’s poetry” club of the Starobilsk gymnasium Artem Litashov recited the poem “We must live for Ukraine”. His lines inspired the audience to reflect on their own role in the revival and development of our country.

At the end of the event to the foot of the monument to Taras Shevchenko were laid flowers from grateful descendants who remember and will pass on to future generations the commandments of the great poet.

The relevance of the Shevchenko’s word, his ideas of humanism and patriotism is what unites all Ukrainians around the immortal Kobzar today.
